Hi folks,
I'm trying to record through my UA101. I've selected it for recording and playing, and am using inputs 33-4 to pick up from a cassette recorder. I can hear the recorder through headphones, but nothing is recorded. I'm using windows XP. Many thanks for any light, Dave.

Do you mean "inputs 3 and 4"?
Audacity does not support specific channel allocation so you may need to set Audacity Preferences to record 4 channels (1,2,3 and 4), then delete the 2 unused channels after recording.
If it still does not work, have a go with Audacity 1.3

Note - you must set up the recording device correctly in Audacity Preferences - the above advice about record 4 channels only applies if you are using a multi-channel driver. If the Edirol has individual drivers for each pair of channels, just set Audacity Preferences to use the appropriate pair of drivers. Audacity does not support ASIO, so you need to have the Windows drivers installed for the device.

I'm not entirely sure how to change the edirol so that it uses wdm as opposed to azio drivers. Thanks David.

From my hazy memory of using Windows, you disconnect the unit, delete the driver, install the new driver and connect the device again -- and cross your fingers.

Just make sure that the Windows drivers are installed - they should be on your installation disk. You can have more than one type of audio driver installed at a time, and select with the application which driver the application will use to communicate with the hardware.
Driver selection is done through Audacity Preferences - For Audacity 1.2 that in the Audio I/O tab.

Hi STF and Coz,

Even more confused. I have two choices for audio host, MME or Windows Direct sound. I chose WDS, and selected edirol as my recording and playback device, and set number of channels to 4. Still nothing happens. When II installed drivers, I got no choice about what to install, and just let the installer run its course. At the end, it finds the soundcard, and installs device drivers automatically. Thanks for your patience, David.

Can you record anything if you select 2 channels (stereo) and use inputs 1 and 2?

Which version of Audacity are you using at the moment?

I'm using 1.3.9, although I believe this may still be the case under 1.2. Have just tried Cakewalk, and all works fine.
