Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Reduced length/duration of uploaded file

Post by wedgewood » Fri Oct 16, 2009 10:43 pm

I have an audio file that is 31 minutes long -- when I upload it into Audacity, it shows the file as 2 seconds long. My goal is to edit the file (contains many songs) into separate files. I cannot find a way to get the duration of the file back to normal for editing --
Using Audacity 1.2.6 on Windows XP
Thanks!

You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support. Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC & MP2 in 1.3.

The short file is Audacity 1.2's inelegant way of telling you that it can't handle the file type you've given it - in 1.3.x a more appropriate and informative error message appears.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.
