Can't save or modify project

I recorded an audio track...the track is visible, but most functions (effects, save functions, etc.) are grayed out and inoperative. I can scroll around on the track but pressing play doesn't do anything. Any idea what is going on? Thanks.

Did you press stop at the end of the performance capture?

Yeah, pressed stop several times...basically almost all of the program's functionality was gray-ed out and inoperative. Did I accidentally turn on some option that wouldn't let me touch anything?
