Can't stop audio from overmodulating
I've been recording audio on a new stereo headset I bought. The levels work very well, and when I'm just montoring the levels (by clicking inside the meter) it all sounds fine. When I start recording though, it overmodulates anytime I raise my voice. In the windows control panel I've reduced the microphone volume and boost to 0, it's still happening. Reducing audacity's input volume doesn't fix it - it just peaks at a lower level but still overmodulates. There's no control on the headset for volume, and I've moved the microphone as far away from my mouth as I can. What else can I try?

You get crunchy, dense sound when you speak, right?
Close Audacity.
Windows Sound Recorder
> Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment
Record with that software. Is it still dense and crunchy? Has this headset ever worked? It's a fairly normal headset except for the enhanced noise cancellation. Can you plug it into anything else?
