When I hook: mic->pre-amp->line-in port I get a signal from the pre-amp (a buzzing noise) but the mic isn't recording sound. The pre-amp I'm using has a USB port. Should I try using that? Maybe it will convert an analog signal into a digital signal? I'm not really sure what I'm talking about.
Also, there are level adjustments on the microphone itself. When I change the levels on the microphone the computer is able to pick up on the click of the levels switch, so it's picking up some signal from the mic, just no voice!
Line In, WinXP, pre-amp - no mic signal

I'm not one of the Windows elves, but I can predict what they're going to say. Can you find a model number on the microphone and preamplifier? Any information including what kind of computer. Laptop?
