WILL NOT RECORD .. NEW USER

When I get a edit done and want to record it, it shows a flat line in recording. When I play it back .. there is nothing there. I'm new to this. I don't know if I changed something or what? I uninstalled it and it still does it. I then reset the default settings as it said. Still no recording. What have I done? Is it possible to fix this? I clicked on the mic bar on top one time before. other then that .. I'm not sure what I did. PLease help ...
