Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Speaking for myself, I speak very minimal Japanese and am currently taking classes to learn the language.

Why do you ask? Aside that the song I'm hoping to (any degree) un-synthesize is Japanese, I'm not sure why this question is relevant to the topic.
I Googled for that song and in the version I found (sorry, lost the link) the vocals were probably clear enough to understand for someone fluent in Japanese.
Attempting to isolate the vocals will introduce distortion, so the result will be no more clear than the original for anyone that is not fluent in Japanese.
Ideally you need help from someone that has Japanese as their first language (or Google for the Lyrics - but I couldn't find them).

My friend and I have both listened to the song, and we both tried looking for the lyrics (myself using english and Japanese* search terms) without much luck, so he resorted to transliteration. Because the synthesizer makes it difficult to hear at certain points, it is more difficult for my friend to transliterate. Because I have Audacity installed, I came here to ask for some assistance.

I understand that isolating the vocals entirely wouldn't be much better because of distortion and such, but I figured that clearing up the words to any degree would at least be more helpful and result in less mistakes.

*Why do I need to clear up the lyrics if I can Google in Japanese? With Japanese search terms, I can recognize kanji/groups of kanji, so I know what to look for when I peruse Google's results, but I don't understand the language itself. Just in case anyone was wondering.
