I downloaded a few plugins from free loops, unzipped them and everything, but they don't do anything (or I don't know how to use them) They appear on the effects menu, but selecting them doesn't change the sound.
p.s. I must say this forum has been awesome so far, all my problems have been solved kudos, kudos

Many plugins will not work with Audacity for a number of reasons. Lets start with Audacity 1.2 which is probably older than you are. Install Audacity 1.3 and see how that goes. You can have 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open up in 1.2.
Some plugins require extra software.

Some plugins just suck. Unless you can write plugins, neither of us is going to get those to work. Some plugins take a learning curve. The Audacity 1.3 noise reduction is something of a violin. In good hands it can do wondrous things.
