listening to cassette whilst being recorded

Hi I'm new to audacity and cannot listen to the recording being made from cassette to computer I'm using XP and the connection is cable from mic socket on comp to headphone socket on cassette.but I really need to listen to the recording being made other wise I will be wasting my time, Can any one help many thanks Graybo

You need to set the operating systems mixer to play back the line input.
The mixer is usually accessed through a loudspeaker icon near the time/date.
