Error while opening sound device - can't track it down

Audacity 1.2.6
Vista Home Basic SP2
Toshiba Laptop

Hi. I just installed Audacity and lame, etc. but when I clicked on the record button, I received the error message below. I was trying to record sound that was playing back through the computer. I can't find any mention of this problem in the help documentation or websites. I've also can't find a reference that describes how to check input device settings, either.

Can anyone help? This error occurs every time the record button is clicked. The error message dialogue box provides no additional options, just an OK button.

It's there, but it's a little rough to find.

In addition, you should probably reset Audacity preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. The native Audacity wakes up Mono and 32-bit.
