Audio Import sounds like a 1 sec screech, no music
Downloaded the program and plug-ins today, no problems with that. Once opened and I import an audio file, everything looks okay, but like the subject says, the music is a 1 sec screech. I've checked the details on the files I've tried to use, all are WAV files. I've looked in the manual and tutorials to check the preference setting, but no luck. Some files I've purchased through Napster, some I've ripped from my own cds. I get the same results, no matter the file origin. I've used similar, but simpler, software in the past. Any ideas on what i'm missing? I've checked other posts and tried to rule out problems such as unsupported file type, etc.... Thanks
Re: Audio Import sounds like a 1 sec screech, no music
Are you sure they're WAV files? The music I download from Napster is in a completely different format (WMA), and when I tried to import one into Audacity I got exactly the screech you describe. Audacity does not work with those files. Try something that is definitely a WAV, like one of the sounds in the I386 folder; if it still doesn't work, I don't know what's going on.

What you're describing is exactly what happens when you import a WMA or MP4 (aka m4a) file. These are compressed formats that Audacity cannot currently read.

Did you ever figure out why you are getting that 1-2 screech? I'm getting the same thing with my WAV to MP3 converstion.
Any help would be appreciated.
