on my first recording I accidently had my mic switched on while recording some music and it picked up the dog barking and everything going on at the time - is there an easy way of removing this mic line using the editing function.
any help would b appeciated.

The short answer is no. The dog is now a performer in your show. Does the dog want residuals and performance fees? You might want to find out before you publish the work. Some performers have edit final decision clauses, so it's good to know these things.
Do you know why the mic was on? typically this is because you were recording "Mix-Out" and not one of the dedicated sound services. Mix-Out can pick up everything.
Another possibility is the microphone was the only thing on. You're going to switch off the mic and everything will drop dead. What is the goal? What are you really recording?
