To record/convert cassette to mp3 connections..

Sound comes from a standard phono turntable distorted according to the RIAA curve. No bass. One of the jobs of a Phono Preamp is to straighten out the curve and amplify the music. After that happens, it delivers a Line Level signal to the Line In connection of your digital converter or Line In of your computer.

It's possible to do those jobs directly inside the computer, but it's not pretty. Laptops without a Line In connection don't work all that well, either.

I ordered the Behringer. As I was ordering I noticed a turntable pre-amp listed. At some point in time I want to convert some of my vinyl to MP3 also (besides cassette tapes). But I'm thinking I can just use my old turntable thru my A/V Rcvr to the Behringer in on laptop. Agree?

If that will work - would I just use the headphone output from front of A/V Rcvr to input for Behringer for both tapes and LPs?

The Receiver will be ok provided that it has a Phono input for a TT - then the receiver pre-amp circuitry will apply the necessary RIAA equalisation to the recording (otherwise the recording will sound thin).

The headphone output would probably work - it does have a gain control with it, right? So you can control the output level. Better may be to use RCA out sockets on the receiver (if it any).

ps I found some usefull info on all replys relating to ,recording through ,stereo headphone out , laptop microphone in ,which seems to only record in mono , and sounds shite . going back to desktop all the best .

There is a new cassette deck which plugs into one of your ports on the PC it is called TAPE2PC and is made by
a firm called ION. I payed £99.00 for mine and find it is brilliant,it also tells you how to use with Audacity
I got my from a firm called djstore.co.uk simply because they didn't charge for delivery.
The firm also do a record deck but I haven't got one of those yet

sounds good there , i got an old note book , and found now that , iam in need of a desk top , with regular in out , i found theres a way to go from headphones to microphone on my laptop , which will also convert to stereo , on the audacity program . now also figured that my tap deck dont have in out , so back to plan f , run headphone to line in on a desk top ,see if that works , but some how cant figure out now that the frequency curves when recording , have dissapeard , ps not to savy on computers , like the idea of that tap deck to pc , iam in canada though. i have 300 old skool89 90 house music tapes iam trying to convert and its all turning in to a royal pain in the slip old skool paul ps any one got any suggestions

I have used a software naemd Golden Records Vinyl to CD Converter which help me to convert vinyl LP records, audio tapes or cassettes to CD or to wav or mp3,
maybe you can have a try.
