Can anyone help me to do this so thay I can send an MP3 file by email, allowing it to be played on realplayer/mediaplayer ? After recording my own music (from a cassette tape), and after I am happy with it, I select File, and Export, then a box appears with spaces to fill in the artist/title/date etc...It is at this point that I am stuck! I have also downloaded the Lame software. The version I am using is 1.3 beta (unicode). Thank you.

That's been corrected in later Audacity versions. You don't have to put anything in that box. Just press OK and you should be taken to the export panel.

In Audacity 1.2, you need to have already set up MP3 export in Edit > Preferences. You can't do it at the Export step at the end of the show. That's too late. This is also where you tell Audacity where the separate lame software is and make sure it works. This is usually when people find out they got the wrong lame or the wrong Audacity.

"My lame software file is gray when I try to select it."

Audacity 1.3 got changed so you can set all the export numbers and values when you want to make an MP3, not Audacity 1.2.

You know you posted in the Audacity 1.2 forum, right?
