And then I deleted the wrong message. Wow, not my night.

Text replaced from duplicate message:
Help tells me that when I export to mp3, I should get a "File Export Dialog Box," but I don't. All I get is "Edit Metadata." I need to export files to mp3 with 64bit rather than 128.

And duplicate deleted - Waxcylinder

a. You're in the wrong Audacity, or
b. You're looking in the wrong place.

a. The 1.3 versions of Audacity allow you to set the export quality and character right at the export step. Audacity 1.2 will not do that.

b. Audacity 1.2 sets all its file parameters in Edit > Preferences. You frequently have to restart Audacity to get these settings to stick, so no, it's not handy, convenient, or fast. See Audacity 1.3

You can have both Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open up in 1.2.

We assume you installed the "lame" software and that's working OK. Audacity will not export MP3 files by itself because the MP3 process is a paid license.

I have both 1.2 and 1.3 beta

I was using 1.3 and yes, I have installed lame. I can export to mp3, just can't get the dialog box that lets me set the quality/character.

I am having the same problem. I am using Audacity 1.3.9 (unicode). I have spent several hours trying to find the "export dialog box." I want to export my file at 128kbps but it will only let me do so at 32kbps. When I try to export, the only option I am given is to edit the metadata info. There is nothing that will allow me to change the bit rate. What am I doing wrong?

This is the "Audacity 1.2.x for Windows" part of the forum.
Selecting the export format for MP3s is different on different versions.
Please decide which version of Audacity you are using, on what operating system, and make a new post.
