Re: Plethora of annoying issues with Audacity- HELP!
I did not do a defragment. or an error check (this one I do not know how to do).
I have the project file and I have the data.
But like I said the data file was saved under a different name. i do not know why the project file when saved first time, did not save a data file under the same name (or maybe it got accidentally deleted).
I opened the .au project file in note pad. But could not find the alias file or location of the ASSOCIATED data file.
May I ask you a favor ? Can i email you the note pad with the project file data in it? Could you check where the data file is as it should say that in there, right?
i tried data recovery- did not bring up any results. i tried to import and raw import the data form the _data file. But it just gave me hundreds of snippets in a crazy order. The data is named in sequence though. Even when I only imported ten snippets...But that does not help, when imported it again just seemed random as hell.
Does audacity 1.2 have an automatic save mechanism, I mean if the pc or audacity ever crashes mid project, does it save?
Btw you said you never save projects. But I need to save as it is a large project and even a year ago I regularly saved projects and reopened them later with no issues. So why would it now be more problematic or risky.

Re: Plethora of annoying issues with Audacity- HELP!
I tried importing the data into the project again...but something weird has happened. Every wmp data icon in the data folder has a second one added after it , which is not recoginzed... so if there is a wmp "b00001.au" there is another icon after it saying "b00002.auf" Not sure what the "F" means??????
Anyway, I tried to open the first one of them there with "audacity" and that gave all of those extra icons the audacity icon- which can neither be played nor imported. How do I get rid of them all without having to delete each single one of these...?

<<<But like I said the data file was saved under a different name.>>>
_Data Folder. The folder with all the little au files in it. Audacity doesn't just make up or change _data folder names on the fly. At one time, you had a Project with that name and that Project created the _data folder.
Conversely, at one time you had an AUP file to match your Project. The only way I know to resolve an AUP-less Project is with the Crash Recovery Tools.
AUF files are Block Data Files. No, I don't know, either.
<<<I opened the .au project file in note pad.>>>
You need to pay attention, please. You can open up the AUP file in Notepad and it should look something like that picture I posted and might give you a little more information as to what happened. The AU files are little sound snippets and won't tell you a thing.
I did run across more than one comment that if you start having troubles with files and folders coming and going and unexplained computer insanity, you may be having computer problems. Virus Infestation, Windows Registry Corruption, Drive Errors. All these things can produce a computer that starts doing seriously damaging things at no apparent provocation.
I can't help you at all with that. I'm on a Mac.
We can wait for the Windows people to dig us out here on the forum, or you can take your machine to whoever does computer maintenance for you. You may need the serious drive servicing tools and the weapons grade virus checker.

Re: Plethora of annoying issues with Audacity- HELP!
Thanks very much. I will install a better anti virus software etc, you may well be right.
There was just one last question: If i have 3 tracks in a project but I want to burn them onto CDs separately, how do i do that? how do I select just track one and then 2 and lastly track 3, so i end up with 3 separate CD's, one for each track?

I know the Exported Show does not respond to the mute and solo buttons on the left, but if you have successfully saved your Project, you can open it and delete two of the tracks with the little "x" on the left and then Export. Then close the whole thing without saving and open up the three-track project again and delete a different two. Export. Repeat.
I'm sure somebody is going to laugh at me and there's a different way, but I know that works.

If you need to give your computer a really good scan, try Avast (if it for home use then it is free).
By default Avast will want to reboot your machine immediately after installation and run a full system scan. Allow it to do this and it will scan BEFORE Windows is loaded and is therefore able to find any viruses that use Windows to make themselves invisible. AVG (free version) is another goo done, but I don't think that you can schedule a pre-boot scan. Also, Avast is generally better at removing any viruses.
Method 2: (but only if the songs are arranged to play one after the other within the Audacity project). Make a label track and use "Export Multiple" as described here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ate_tracks

In Audacity 1.3.xkozikowski wrote:I know the Exported Show does not respond to the mute and solo buttons on the left,
The Exported show DOES respond to the MUTE buttons. MUTED tracks are NOT Exported.
The SOLO buttons are ONLY for listening to the show and DO NOT affect the Exported show.
(can't remember how it works in 1.2.x)

I don't think like that. We had several complaints of people who tried to split up projects like that and it didn't work.
