Hi, When I open my original file in Audacity 1.3.9 each individual track plays. But when I open the folder of my Exported Multiple and click on each track to open and play, many of them do not play,, and the track displayed doesn't show the original wave form. Can you tell me how I can put this right? I have Windows XL. Many thanks, Roy Windmill

<<<Windows XL.>>>

Windows XP maybe?

<<<open my original file in Audacity 1.3.9>>>

You posted in the Audacity 1.2 forum.

<<<many of them do not play>>>

But some do play OK?

Where did the original file come from?

Koz

Hi koz, sorry for my mistakes. My original recording was in Audacity 1.2.6. But my labelling and export multiple was done in Audacity 1.3.9. And, yes, I am on Windows xp. Thanks. Roy

Koz, Perhaps I should add that my original recording was from an LP, stereo. Roy

Roy,

are you sure that you only have one label at each break point?

I seem to remember a 1.2 posting from a while back wher the poster turned out to have created multiple labels at the same track break point - and this led to the creation of "empty" exported files. I also seem to remember that in 1.2 it can be hard (or even impossible) to see if you have multiple labels like this.

My suggesttion is for you to recreate the label track. You can do this without losing your original label positionings by creating a second label track (in 1.2 use Project > New Label Track ). Use the original label track to create the labels in your mnew label track at the same time position. Once the second label track is complete, then delete the original label track by clicking on litlle X in the top left hand corner of the label track. Then retry the Export Multiple.

Hi W.C, I have only one label at the start of each track. And as I said in my Sept 25 post, my original recording was in Aud 1.2.6, but my labelling and Export Multiple was done in aud. 1.3.9. Many Thanks Roy

Hi Roy,

this is somewhat puzzling then.

So next questions:
1) what audio format are you exporting the files to?
2) can you open up these files in Windows Medai Player and play them?

Hi W.C, I am exporting as WAV. And yes, I am able to play them in the media player, and that's where I discovered that certain tracks weren't playing. Hope this helps. Thanks. Roy

Do you mean that you can "open" them in WMP but they produce no sound when you press play?

If so, do the silent ones play for the expected amount of time?

What are the relative sizes of the files of WAVs that play and WAVs that don't play? Duration time and filesize would be useful to see.

Hi W.C, I might be getting my terminology wrong. In the file menu, I don't have Export Wave, only Export Multiple. And I'm sorry to say, I don't know what WMP is. To open I click on the Aud.1.3.9 icon then File-open,which takes me to My Documents. I then click on the folder that I created to hold my Multiple Export which opens the list of my named tracks. The first plays normally. Track 2 doesn't play, and the curser moves very quickly through it. Track 3 plays ok for it's full length. Tracks that play shows a full waveform, those that don't play shows no more than a blue line, more like a ripple. The tracks that play are 40.8MB to 44.8MB. Those that don't play are 805-875KB. In addition to the 14 recorded from my L.P, there are a further 9 tracks that are numbered -2 to -9, with one "untitled" This one appears on the screen as a flat blue line. The -2 to -9 appear as a blue ripple. None of these play as there are only 14 tracks on my L.P. I hope this long winded explanation helps. Thanks. Roy
