PS: I tried something called AVS Audio Editor, which will do AAC. This application was non-activated, so it put a loud message on the test recording I did -- while the actual music following the message was extremely faint. At the bottom of the page AVS displayed: "Recording: Microphone (Total Recorder - WDM - Master Volume)." Does this mean Total Recorder, which I downloaded earlier, is interfering with AVS?
I tried some other things, such as Diamond Cut DC7, which requires a lame encoder -- I guess this can't be the same one Audacity uses? I set it to sample rate 44.1kHz, 16 bit resolution -- not sure what that means. Seems without the encoder it will only save files as WAV. DC7 gives three "recording device" options: "Primary Sound Capture Driver," "Microphone (Conexant High Definition)," "Microphone (Total Recorder WDM audio)." Any idea what that all means?
Sorry to be a pain!
