Distortion

Help! I have audacity 2.6.2 ( I think) & I can't get it to reocrd correctly. It always seems to record the signal from my usb turntable with fullsignal that has distortion on it right through the track & the wav file peaks all the way through. No matter what seetings I sue I cna't seem to correct this any ideas?
I run windows XP with a nivida NV Mixer

When you connect a USB device like this Audacity hands control over to the device itself - so the gain sliders in Audacity no longer operate. You will need therefore to control the gain/volume at the USB TT itself. Some of them have gain controls (e.g. the ION & Numark ones do) - and some don't. If yours doesn't then you have a problem ...
