Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Stereo Mix Troubles

Post by Copper Oranges » Sun Sep 13, 2009 3:30 am

When I open audacity 1.2.6, the box where I can select what I want to record to record (mic volume, line volume, etc) is grayed out, and it won't let me make a selection.

When I open audacity 1.3.8 beta, it lets me make a choice, but when I select stereo mix, something strange happens. It records the first half of a second perfectly, but then it just turns into a bunch of noise. I think the previous half a second is interfering with the next second (if that makes any sense).

Your screenshot shows that your recording level is WAY too high.

See this link http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ing_levels for info on how to set the recording level.

You might have another problem as well. High recording volume shows up right away and that's not what you have (well, maybe some of that, too). Yours gets louder as you go. That can happen when you set up the Windows Control Panel wrong and you record the show in two pathways or record the show and Audacity Playback at the same time. That will just keep getting louder and louder...

If you could hear through the horrible distortion, you might find that there is an echo in the performance, typical of a routing error.
