Speed change - 96000Hz exported to 44100Hz

Post by furstt » Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:57 am

Hello-

For some projects, I like to record at a 96000Hz rate and 32-bit. My target *.wav file sometimes needs to be at 44100Hz and 16-bit (for CDs). When I export from 96000Hz to 44100Hz, the speed of the recording changes.

How can I record at 96000Hz but still export to 44100Hz (and keep the recording speed unchanged)?

Thanks!

Using 1.2.6, I get the right output speed (and pitch), but the file has extra silence appended to the end of it (this is a known bug).

You might be exporting wrong. Record at 96KHz (you'll know this from the info to the left of each track on Audacity's main screen). Then change the project sample rate in Audacity's main screen (lower left hand corner) to 44.1KHz. Now export as wav. You should end up with a 44.1KHz file with annoying silence tacked onto the end (you can re-import this 44.1KHz file and cut out the silence then re-export it as a 44.1KHz file and it will be fine).

If that silence is too annoying, then I recommend exporting everything to 96KHz (Audacity should export it to the right length) and using a free program called r8brain to do batch conversions.
