exported wav or mp3 files not showing up in explorer

I searched the board about this and I can't find any info or tips as to why this is happening. I am thinking a codec got updated and it's screwed something up.

I have done this a zillion times, but this started happening today for no reason. If I export a wav or mp3 file, it's fine Audacity can open it find it and play it. Not a problem.

When I go to the location where the wav or mp3 was saved by looking in regular file exlporer (I am using Vista), it's not there! ?????

I have hide extension types clicked off to show all extensions, and I also have hidden files to be not SHOWN. I use the sound files in my video editing programs but if I can't locate them well then something's screwy.

I tried to add the file in my Adobe Premiere Elements software and I go to the directory where it is saved and it can't see it, but if I go to Audacity to open from that location its there.. it shows up. I tried to trick this by dropping the file from the Audacity Explorer open file box and drag and drop it into the other application and I got the error:

This type of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed..

what now?

ok I did some more noodlin... I exported to a different file location instead of the default Audacity folder... and then it worked.

I am guessing this has something to do with permissions.... so if anyone knows a fix please let me know.

Later!

Export music files to your desktop, use them, and then move them to wherever you eventually want them. The magic of "Export" is that you get stand-alone sound files and you can safely move them anywhere, anytime.
