I was raeding about how to remove voice in a song.
and the help page told me after some instructions that all worked to go to the effect menu and then select "Invert"
( I have a dutch version, there it is called "Inverteren", So I don't know if it is called exactly like what I just sayd about invert in the English version)
But the problem is, It just isn't there...
There are several options and effects to use but I cant find "invert"
So does anybody here know what to do about that? because I really have to remove the vocals for some records here in my studio.
in the mean time I will try to find some other options but this seemed to be the most easy one...
Thanks to anybody that is able to help.

Many if not all of the versions of Audacity have Vocal Removal software either built in or readily available. That's basically what the invert and subtract trick is doing, but in a pre-built effect.
You know this never works, right? It fails if the show is two-track mono, if the singer isn't in the middle, if the singer has stereo special effects, if the singer has stereo echo, or if the music is MP3 or any other compressed format.
Since most music has one of more shortcoming, almost nobody goes home happy.

Sorry. One more. Even if everything works OK, you don't walk away with a Stereo instrumental show. It's mono. Plus all the instruments in the middle, like drum and bass, go along with the voice.

In Audacity 1.2.6 it is in the Effects menu - the item under "FFT Filter".
Here's the Audacity wiki page about vocal removal:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... al_Removal
Note that it says that the technique will only work if all of the right conditions exist.

I know that it has to be there. but it is'nt.
it just is'nt there...
I tried the demo of the newest version wich has an automatic vocal remover but that f*cks up the complete song and the vocals are still there...
I saw the clip on youtube where som guy shows what to do in the normal 1.2 version.. and there, the song still sounds reasonable and the vocals are gone. but he has the invert option wich I don't have...
What is the problem exactly then... It should be there right... is there more than one version of the 1.2 series?
because I figured that i'm able to do a lot with this program, but all I want is what I can not because that invert function ran away during the installation or something...

<<<I saw the clip on youtube >>>
Yes, quite a number of people saw that clip. They all went away thinking they could do this effect to every song every recorded. That demo was with one of the five songs ever recorded where it worked.
<<<vocal remover but that f*cks up the complete song and the vocals are still there...>>>
That's pretty much normal, yes. If the vocal had extensive effects and wasn't in the middle, but many of the instruments were, the song would go away instead of the vocal.
He's right. I have 1.2.6 on this machine and Invert is right between FFT Filter and Noise Removal.
<<<is there more than one version of the 1.2 series?>>>
1.2.4, 1.2.5, and 1.2.6 on Windows, Mac, and Linux and goodness knows how many languages.
If you reinstalled Audacity, did it ask you for a language when you launched it again? That's how you know you got a fresh install.

Exactly which version of Audacity do you have (look in "Help > About Audacity")
With all 1.2.x versions you can reset Audacity to the "out-of-the-box" condition by following the "safe solution" method on this page:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... o_defaults
This will effectively give you a clean install, but un-installing/re-installing does not.
