Hi Everybody,
I have a quick issue which i want to know if this is possible for audacity or not.
Anyways, whenever i try to import an mp3 file and save it in audacity using the aup project format. Although the aup format itself is quite low...the backing data it saves is massive (equivalent to a wav file). This is driving me nuts as it's taking up far too much space. So i went to the preferences and clicked on the tab that says 'do not copy any audio' on the 'when saving a project that depend on other audio files' which should be in the import/export or 'projects' depending on which audacity version is being used. Although i've clicked on the 'do not copy any audio' tab the problem is audacity just keeps on creating this huge massive backup data and it won't follow my orders.
So is this natural? Is there any way to keep the quality the same when saving without using so much space? Saving the files as ogg is terrible as it cuts out way too much of the quality to the point where's unlikeable...
HELP!

Re: File Size Saving
Audacity Projects are not sound files. Audacity always works uncompressed internally because you can't do complicated effects otherwise.
Export to get another MP3, but please know that the MP3 process damages the sound and multiple MP3 passes damages the sound even more.
If you don't need complicated special effects, then you may want to try a stand-alone MP3 editor instead of Audacity. Those directly edit the MP3 file and don't need to decompress and recompress -- saving that additional damage.

This is a very dangerous option to select unless you absolutely know what you are doing. You run the risk of creating gaps in your project of you move/rename/delete any of the audio on which the project depends.Bakubon wrote:... Audacity Projects should really be used for capture and production only. Completed projects should be exported to WAV and or MP3 etc. and once those exported files are backed up you can then delete the Audacity project to free up the space.

I agree with these. Its very risky move unless you know what your doing.
It will affect on you projects.
