Importing sound from audio cassette

Post by sif_uk » Tue Sep 01, 2009 1:21 pm

I have just a couple of old audio cassettes (containing mainly speech), the contents of which I would like to preserve for sentimental reasons. Therefore, I would like to import the sound from these cassettes into my PC, with a view to converting the sound to MP3 or WAV format and then burning to CD.

It has been suggested to me by a gentleman in PC World that a simple solution might be to connect my cassette walkman, via a 3.5mm stereo jack lead, to the microphone input of my PC. I have tried this but without success. I have used Audacity in attempt to capture sound, but to no avail. However, I am a complete novice with this piece of software – indeed I am a complete novice with importing sound full stop, so I could be missing something or just doing things plain wrong! Can someone please help?! Sorry to be a pain.
