Problems when recording a DJ-set

Post by TBSMK » Mon Oct 29, 2007 8:26 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to record a mix with Audacity, but please listen to this (12 sec.) sample:

newbie.wav - 1.01MB

This is recorded with Audacity, but between the 9th and 10th second, you can clearly hear an error (I get this all the time), just like something got stuck for a millisecond or so. Can anybody help me with this? I don't know anything about computers, so please explain this to me like I'm a 5 year old...:)

Does it maybe have anything to do with the fact that I'm going from a stereo to a mono sound? Or maybe it's got something to do with my soundcard?

Thanks in advance!

That's odd.

I can tell you for sure it has nothing to do with Stereo -> Mono conversion. Nor does it have anything to with your external equipment (provided you only hear this when recording).

We're left with either your sound card / drivers, or Audacity. I'm biased, but I don't think it's Audacity. It sounds like your sound card suddenly got set to a different sample rate for a fraction of a second and then got set back to what it's supposed to be. There aren't any disjointed waveforms near that spot, so it's not like Audacity is missing data or anything like that.

Most likely, it's a hardware problem, or a driver issue. Do you have the latest drivers for your sound card? It's usually a good idea to keep them updated. If that doesn't help, new hardware probably will.
