effect only applies to half of selection

When changing tempo or pitch of an mp3 the program is only applying the effect to the first half
of the selection. I'm selecting "all" and it is selecting the entire track and then the effect desired
and it goes through the apply process and then only half the track appears selected and it only
plays that part showing selected. If I try to select the remaining section, it does the same thing
and only applies it to half of THAT selection.
I've been doing this for some time and never had a problem
before. I did just reload the program after having a new hard drive installed, but don't know
why that would be a problem. It's version 1.2.6 and I'm running windowsxp.
Help?

I don't think that any of the regular posters here use the 1.2 version of Audacity any more.
Try updating to the 1.3 version and if you have problems you're a lot more likely to find someone that can help.

You don't need to uninstall 1.2 in order to install 1.3 - just don't try running them at the same time (doesn't work).
Projects saved in Audacity 1.2 can be opened in 1.3, but Audacity 1.2 can not open Audacity 1.3 projects.
