Beginner needs help!

Post by swyscheese » Sat Aug 29, 2009 7:09 pm

Im sorry if I should be posting elsewhere for this, feel free to move thread if needed

Alright, So im fairly new with using Audacity and music editing in general.
1. What is a good place to start and to learn basic techniques?
2. Where would one go to find Sound clip packs, for example, a record scatch as a transition. (Very cliche but you get the point)
3. Is Audacity strong enough to accomplish basic yet complex techniques like sampling songs together? (or is sampling very difficult? from what I know you just need the instrumentals from "song a" and the vocals from "song b" and then the difficult part is matching to the beat/tempo, which is easier said then done I guess...)

Please help me out.... Thanks! :D

<<<you just need the instrumentals from "song a" and the vocals from "song b" and then the difficult part is matching to the beat/tempo>>>

The difficult part is getting the vocal from song A and the instrumental from song B. They don't just obediently split up into two parts and lie there waiting for you to use them. Many people, including Audacity make Vocal Management Software, Instrumental and vocal isolation, and none of it works very well.

The closer you get to the original studio master recording tapes the better it works. Most people want to download highly compressed MP3s from the internet and have a good time. The more compressed and processed the song is, the worse the software works.

I don't know that we ever found tutorials for total beginners, but there are classes out there.

Although I do agree with what you've said about sampling, I guess I just got lucky when I found the acapella + instrumentals of one of my favourite songs. Im not trying to prove you wrong, I guess I just got lucky, and have yet to find another with both the acapella and instrumentals. Thank you for the help! :)

I'm not making it up. The forum is full of people trying to do what you want to do with their favorite song. You are the first poster to arrive with the music already split up. You win.
