Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Convert mono to stereo

Post by NICKL » Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:26 pm

Hello all,
I am new to audacity 1.2.6..
I have music that was recorded with only a mono microphone.
The music only plays out of the left speaker.
How do i create stereo from mono with this software?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

No. First you need Audacity 1.3. You can install both versions as long as you only use one at a time.

Load your show. Track > Add Track. Select and copy the original song. Select the new track and paste.

Using the tools on the left of the top track > Make Stereo Track.

Export the new stereo show.

I would warn you to change Audacity preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo before you do any of this. Audacity 1.2 in particular has unfortunate defaults.
