3300th topic!

Audacity can't play anything, after all of these:

1. Recording a sound, then playing it.
2. Opening a wave file, then playing it.
3. Opening a music file, then playing it.
4. Set the Audio I/O to all different kinds of options available, but still can't play.
5. Reinstalled my audio driver to the latest, can play music on Youtube, and games, yet Audacity can't play anything.
6. Reinstalled Audacity Stable, didn't work.
7. Switched to Unstable version, still didn't work.
8. Reverted back, still the same.
9. Changed the sound settings in the Control Panel, still didn't work.
10. Configure the speakers to all available options, yet it didn't work.
11. Switched to a different driver, instead of Audacity, everything can't play, so I failed on this one. Did reverted back.
12. Did a system restore. Still not working.
13. Checked the plugins, but I'm not sure what plugins am I missing from the stable ones

I'm using:

Acer Aspire 5720-4126
Windows Vista Home Premium, Genuine. (Windows Updated to the latest)
Realtek High Definition Audio Device. (latest)
2 GB DDR2 RAM
160 GB Hard Drive

Is there something I'm doing it wrong, is it just me, or Audacity is broken somewhere...? (I doubt the last one, but it's getting on my nerves.)

You did miss one step. Audacity is the only thing that will not play? FireFox is OK, Windows Media is OK, Startup and Shutdown sounders are OK, YouTube is OK?

I'm afraid yes. Just only Audacity.

Audacity has preferences, too. Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O. Is it set to playback into anything you own? Back on the main edit window, do you have the output (little speaker) slider all the way up?

Do you get the bouncing green sound meter when you play a clip and where do the peaks bounce?

And just to be compulsive, pull down this six second sound clip and try to play that...

Done that.

Yes, no effect.

Bounce? You mean the green bar that goes left and right whenever it's playing the waveforms? Yes. The peaks "bounces" in between the middle, and I'm thinking that's normal.

And what is this "pull down"?

AH! I have found the problem!!

I took my laptop to the manufacturer and talked about this. They said my speakers have a "loose wire". Dunno what it is.

Now Audacity can finally play the sounds I had recorded. Thanks for your help anyways.
