Hi
I have installed the stable version of Audacity on my laptop running Windows XP. When I try to record from a CD in the laptop I get no input into Audacity, if I use an external CD player it works fine.
Any help is appreciated
Alan
Can,t record from CD in laptop

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Can,t record from CD in laptop
That's because your soundcard and it's associated drivers don't allow you to record whatever is playing on your computer. I bet you can't record ftom Youtube either. It's because manufactures seem to be making this difficult - presumably to make piracy harder.
You can get around this by using an external soundcard, or an external CD player as you have discovered.
But this begs the question, unless this is a copy protected CD - in which case it won't even play on your computer, why are you bothering to record the CD. Why not just rip it to a set of WAV files with CD ripper software? You can them import these WAV files into Audacity and edit them.
