Export Problem

After recording from a vinyl record to Audacity, I click on the "File Menu" and click on
"Export as Wav" to a special file on my "C" drive. This does work , however it also exports the file as a whole bunch of "AU"Files (Thats what it says) The last one I exported had 301 "AU" Files. which I have been deleting. I have no idea how it is exportng as a "AU" file because I have only exported the file as a WAV file. Can I possibly have something enabled or ckecked which is causing the files to be exported as BOTH " WAV" and "AU" files? This has really got me snowed. I hope there is a answer for this. :?

It does that as a housekeeping function during both capture and editing. You shouldn't need to delete them. Once you create your final WAV file and close audacity for the last time, they should be erased in the auto-housekeeping step right before closing.

It's possible the Very Special Place on your hard drive is preventing the housekeeping step from happening. Does this place have wacky Windows Permissions or Ownerships? You can make Windows prevent the erasing of a file or folder--forever,if you do it right.

Thanks, I did not know about the housekeeping function during both capture and editing.
This all goes back back to a Topic: Lost Audaciy data file
Sep 20 2007 4:36 pm in which you gave me all kinds of expert INFO and advice. I export the WAV files to a file on my "C" drive called "AUDACITY WAV MASTERS" as you suggested I also have a file which I call :audacity final edit masters. This file is empty now until I start to edit the files in AUDACITY WAV MASTERS. I have 5 records in there now thanks to your great help. The first two records did not export AU files, at least they were not there when I first started because I went to that file and saw the Side1 & 2 of the first record and NO AU files. To keep things neet I am making a seperate file for each Exported WAV file within the AUDACITY WAV MASTERS file. Everything seems to be working fine except for the AU files which showed up whwn I exported record #3

I also have both files on my EXternal hard drive, However I am having some trouble with it and I am trying to get some HELP from West. Dig.
I hope what I have said makes sense??? :|

The video people don't like Western Digital very much.

For safety, you have the finals on two different hard drives, right?

Yes I have the files on my hard drive "C" and some in my WDEXHD. I only have one hard drive in my PC. I have exported the unedited wav files to my :C"drive . I have not made any final edits yet. I want to export as many records as I can before i start to make final edits, as you suggested in: (Topic: Lost Audaciy data file
Sep 20 2007 4:36 pm ) I have a long way to go and a lot of work ahead of me. I am also having problems with my WDEXHD and have not been able copy the last 2 records to that drive. But as I said I have not started to edit anything yet so the (audacity final edit masters file) is empty.
It is hard to work with West. Dig. but I am going to try as soon as I leave here.
And as YOGIE says: IF YOU COME TO A FORK IN THE ROAD, TAKE IT :?
