Recording issue

Hey,

This problem might not be tied to Audacity directly, as I think it'd occur in other audio programs as well. When I record something, it seems to work fine in the beginning, but then after about 10-30 seconds the sound of the recording gets really silent, almost non-existent. Also, certain types of sounds are recorded in larger extents than others after the "change" occurs after 10-30 seconds, and the sound is kinda distorted too. I've tried changing mics but the problem remains. I'm going crazy :?

I don't think I had this problem before I switched speakers...

<<<I've tried changing mics >>>

From that we assume you're trying to record an external microphone. Many sound cards now have Auto Volume Control which does things like you're experiencing. It's almost always on a control panel somewhere so you can turn it off.

If you're feeding a very high sound level into a Mic-In of a laptop, you can get the same effect through simple overload.

Don't keep it a secret. Model number of old and new. Connection type? USB? Kind of PC?
