Freezes When I Stop Recording

Hi,
This happens with the 1.3 beta and 1.2 stable.
When ever I stick 'stop' after recording something Audacity crashes. Vista (32) comes up with the 'this program is not responding - looking for a solution' crap and then it closes. This happens pretty much every time!

Also when I recovered them using the recover prog it makes 2 separate files for each channel, am I right in thinking that channel one is left and channel 2 is right and that my importing both back into audacity and then telling it that channel one is left and channel 2 is right it will be able to recreate the stereo recording as it was?

Which version(s) of Audacity 1.3 have you tried (forget about 1.2, it was written before Vista was released and has never been very reliable on Vista).

If you've not tried it try 1.3.8

It was the latest version, I downloaded it about an hour before I posted that (Checked - Its 1.3.8 unicode).
I was recording through Virtual Audio Cable if that makes a difference?

It could do. Does Audacity work correctly when you record without using VAC?

Just tried doing a few short recordings from VAC and it works fine.. no crashes. The one which caused it to crash before was the first time I'd used 1.3.8 and was a 20min recording. Maybe I jumped to conclusions to quick because before that I was using 1.2 and it crashed every time.

You can also get that when you're running out of drive space. How large are the drives and how full are they?

This isn't mentioned in the wiki page. Do you ever error check and defragment the drive? Audio and video production programs put a serious stress on system resources and speed.

The drive with the temp dir on has 99/366GB free so I dont think think thats the problem.
Vista automatically defrags once a week. I've scheduled a disk check for next time it reboots.

My computers running 4GB ram [well 3GB cos its 32bit], C2D 6600 @ 2.4GHz so I'd hope it can handle it!

The one other drive has 10/372 GB free although I dont see how thats relevant since nothing from audacity is on it?
