Yes they do that sometimes.
It sounds like you are OK for the time being. Keep an eye on this for now and if you get more issues with it post in the 1.3 forum.
I think that there may be a re-release of Audacity 1.3.8 (or perhaps 1.3.9) very soon, with some bug fixes based on the feedback that has been received since the initial release of 1.3.8, so keep an eye out for new versions. There is a heck of a lot of activity on the developers mail list at the moment - I've never seen it so busy, but this is all gearing up to the new stable release of Audacity (version 2.0).

Well, generating silence at the beginning and end of all tracks so that they are equal lenth before changing tempo solved my original problem, and since I opened my 1.2.6 project through 1.3.8 and then opened another (empty) 1.3.8 and copied over all the tracks to the newly opened 1.3.8, I have had no saving issues. Sooo... unless something else pops up, I seem to be doing ok. Other than the fact I can't sing. Next effect for audacity...pitch correction

Oh, one more thing. Anyone had any luck getting a drum machine to work with audacity. (I downloaded a demo version of drumsite, which btw sounds pretty decent, except for the fact I cant save with the demo.) Anyways, realistic drums woud sound nice. For my song I used the back of my acoustic guitar for bongos. It actually sounds surprisingly decent. Anyways, thanks for the help steve. Audicity is a lot of fun and is a real creativity catalyst.

Something I've just noticed in Audacity 1.3.8.
If there are any spaces on a track (empty spaces between audio clips, I don't mean "flat-line silence") then the spaces are not adjusted by "Change Speed" or "Change Tempo".
If you have a track that is continuous from time=0.0 to the end, and another track that starts at time=1 minute, applying one of these effects will push them out of sync with each other because the 1 minute gap stays as a 1 minute gap. I don't think this is supposed to happen, so I have reported the issue and it may be changed in a future release, but for now the way round it would be to "Mix and Render" any tracks that have gaps between audio clips (do this to individual tracks so that you can still split them up again if you need to). Applying "Mix and Render" to a track converts gaps into "flat-line" silence, which are then processed correctly by "Change Tempo" and "Change Speed".
