Hiss for first .5 second

Hello,

Every time I start a new recording using either my built in mic, or a external Sony mic there is a loud, half second 'hiss' or 'buzz', at the .5s mark the sound goes away and is clear for the rest of the recording. I've searched the msg boards, and haven't found anything on this, any thoughts?

I have tried both the latest beta and 1.2.6, and get the same results.

Thanks

The only thing that comes to mind is that it is an issue with your sound card.
Check thoroughly that you do not have any settings such as "Noise removal", "Automatic Gain Control" (AGC) or "Noise Cancellation" selected in the sound card control panel.

If that does not fix it then I suspect the only options will be to either upgrade your sound card, or work around it by starting Audacity recording a second or two before you start singing/playing or whatever it is that you are recording, then trim the bad bit off when the recording is complete.
