Installation went smoothly, but when I try to run, I get a message saying:
side-by-side configuration incorrect
I have a PC with Vista.
Thanks.

Audacity 1.2 is pretty old now and often does not run well on Vista.
Read this first:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS
Then try installing Audacity 1.3

Hi,
Have downloaded Audacity Converter but it keeps telling me that it is inactive. Is there a code somewhere that I need to enter? Help please.

You have just been given a huge amount of "benefit of the doubt" and have not yet been banned.
Your signature has been deleted.
There is no program called "Audacity Converter". If you have a question, please make it clear what you are asking. If you are just spamming the forum, please don't, we are not interested.

I am having an impossible time downloading it on Vista. I have tried all the options, followed the instructions, and still nothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have tried downloading 1.2.6 repeatedly with no success. I get no installation activity whatsoever.

Since I am not a really experienced user I am reluctant to try a Beta version of anything but I suppose it is safe enough.( Reading the comments, I am assuming that some "happy" people, at least, are Vista people.) I may try it. So frustrating!

lin,
1.3.8 is now a pretty mature "beta" and is mainly stable now - I use it all the time now.
BUT once 2.0 is released later this year (hopefully) - the early betas following that should be avoided by most users.
