Curser not doing right

Post by rburrhead » Tue Oct 23, 2007 3:23 am

My PC has been sick again but it is well enough to ask another DUMB question.
When I first recorded a record the Curser was moving along pretty good and when it got to the right side it jumped back to the left side and continued doing it's thing back and forth as it recorded the songs on the record to AUDICITY . (I have recorded 3 and exported them as wav. files.) Well it refuses to do that any more no matter what I do, it just moves from right to left( I mean left to right). I have pushed everything i can but to no avail. I guess it does'nt matter but I just liked it better when it jumped back to the left side each time it got to the right side. AM I CRAZY OR WHAT
Anyway I would like to get it back doing it's left to right thing if possible. But I guess i should just be happy if it does what it is supposed to do.
Any HELP will be greatly appreciated.

If Audacity's view is zoomed in enough, the screen will have to re-draw itself every time the cursor gets all the way to the right (along with the cursor jumping back to the extreme left of the screen). But if the view is zoomed out, you might be able to capture an entire record before the screen fills up. Does that make sense?

If you really want the cursor to jump around, just zoom the view in. But there's a caveat, it's far better for the view to be zoomed OUT since Audacity has to do quite a bit of work every time it re-draws the screen when the cursor gets to the end.

If your computer can handle it, you can leave the view zoomed in (I think it defaults to 12 seconds).

But if you start hearing clicks in your recordings, it's better to zoom the view out so you're looking at 30 minutes or so before you click record.

Thank you very much, after reading what you said I am going to leave things zoomed out. I did not know it was having any affect going back and forth, however i did zoom in pretty far and did not get the B & F effect. But as I said after reading what you said I will leave it zoomed out.
THANKS!! :)

I am still having problems with the Curser, I keeps disappearing on the right side of the screen and I have to keep clicking on the Zoom Out to bring it back in view. Is it supposd to work this way? Am I supposed to Zoom it out as far as it will go to start with? Also my "Fit selection in window" button does no work now, it was working a few days ago.

In the Edit -> Preferences -> Interface Tab, there is an option called "autoscroll while playing". That should be turned ON to update the screen when the cursor scrolls off the end.

I don't know what to say about the Fit Selection button. As long as you have some audio selected with the Cursor Tool, it should work...
