Transform click track into kick drum sound

Post by basilwhite » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:52 pm

I've recorded several tracks to a click track, and I want to transform the sound of the click track into a sound not altogether unlike a kick drum. I've tried EQ and bass boost to no effect. Please help.

I think I solved this with Risset Drum.

Divide 60 by the BPM of your click track to get the duration of the drum beat. For example, if your click track is 101 BPM, 60/101 = 0.594059406.

Create a new audio track and select it.

Select Generate|Risset Drum... and enter the duration of the drum beat in the Decay field. For example, enter 0.594059406 for a 101 BPM Risset Drum beat. this generates ONE drum beat.

Select the entire track, copy the entire track, press the right arrow keyboard button to move the cursor to the end of the track and paste the sample. Repeat this several times, duplicating the drum beats in each sample you copy, until you have a drum sample of sufficient duration.

There is also an item in the effects menu called "Repeat" that allows you to repeat the selected audio many times in one go.

Unfortunately Risset Drum is under the Generate menu, so the Repeat function doesn't repeat Risset Drum  so you have to select the Risset Drum track, copy, right-arrow to deselect (otherwise you'll paste the drumbeat onto itself), paste, repeat a few times, then select the whole track again so you're pasting several beats at once, then keep pasting and copying until you're pasting large sets of beats.

Yes it does - but I understand the confusion - you are talking about "Repeat Last Effect", and I am talking about "Repeat..." (after "Phaser" and before "Reverse" in Audacity 1.2.6)

If say you wan 32 beats of the Risset Drum. Generate one beat the correct length, then while it is selected (or select it manually) select "Repeat..." from the effects menu.
Enter the number 31 (because you already have 1 beat and you want 31 repeats) then click OK.

Oh, there's a separate EFFECT called Repeat. D'oh!

I just tried it. Works great! Thanks! Now the Effect menu starts with "Repeat Repeat." LOL.

And yes, you can "Repeat Repeat" and go from 32 drum beats to 1024 drum beats :D
