can't hear the recording until I press record
Hi, I'm Camsky and just joined the forum. I just got a usb turntable and it works fine with Audacity except I can't hear the recording until I press record. Makes it hard to know when to start. Any advise? Thanks so much.

just click once in the recording meter bars - this will turn monitoring on. This is poorly documented and not very obvious (but easy when you know how).

No Koz, it's still just the same.
I don't think the developers perceive it as a problem - despite email discussions and postings in the Feature Requests in the Wiki. My old R2R tape deck and later cassette decks all had monitoring on all the time IIRC - so if a signal was present it showed on the meters. I don't mind the Audacity meters having an on/off but there should be a visual cue to indicate the state and an obvious "something to click on" to change the state.
There are a couple of refrences to how to turn on monitoring in the 1.4 manual (under development) - but these are well hiidden deep in the middle if articles like: "Recording with USB turntables" and "Tutorial - Copying tapes, LPs or minidiscs to CD" and in the FAQ in the manual under "Why can’t I hear what I’m recording?". But I don't think any of these are at all obviouus and in no way make up for the of the limitations GUI as discussed above.
