Distorted Sound

sometimes when recording the sounds gets really distorted, any ideas on how to fix this,
below is good example of it, the 4 peters from family guy

Interesting combination of errors. How are you recording this? Capture file and play locally? Record Mix-Out?
Two computers? Cable Box and computer?

input is directly connected to the output with a double male audio cable,
i have a spliter on the output so i can connect one to my pc and also connect my headset to the other so i can hear what i record
all settings are on default
using Realtek built in s/c

Does your PC setup say you can switch one input connector between High Level Line-In and Low Level Mic-In? Or alternately, do you have a Line-In connector on your sound card -- sometimes blue? If all that is no, you are greatly overloading your sound card.
The Mac people can do that cable trick, they have matching Line-In and Line-Out...but not you.
You may be stuck capturing the data stream inside the computer.

tried Line-In, but same junky sound,
i was thinking maybe i was overloading the sound card and u mentioning it pretty much confirms it,
hehe but yet i dont see myself going to the store to buy myself a soundcard, think ill stick with good ol' AC'97
