Please Help!!!

When I first got my Audacity software, when i finished recording something, i would record another thing right after the first one, but the first one played while i was recording the second recording. but now, i can only record one thing, and when i try to record another thing on top of the first thing like i did before, the first recording didn't play. PLEASE HELP ME!
