Making a sound file out of video footage

Post by seagull1968 » Fri Jul 10, 2009 8:38 am

Before I download Audacity, can I ask one question.

I have some video footage on a dvd, can I put the DVD into my laptop, and use audacity to create a digital sound file of that video footage which I can then split into individual tracks and add to my itunes library??

Any help, or advise on possible problems would be very useful.

Thanks

Julian

The best way to get the soundtrack from a DVD is to extract it digitally. There are quite a few programs that will help you do this, though it may not be possible with a commercial DVD which may be encrypted. For a non-protected DVD (for example a home made DVD) an easy and free way is to copy the "VOB" files from the DVD then use "SUPER" by erightsoft to convert the VOB files to WAV (audio only) format. The WAV file can then be edited in Audacity.

The other method is to play the DVD and record it in Audacity using "Stereo Mix" recording. See here for more information: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... e_computer
