Sound Input Error
Whenever I try and record audio I keep getting a message that says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and project sample rate." how do I get rid of this message and/or fix the program. And I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the program. And on occasion it actually works.

Re: Sound Input Error
It often happens because Audacity can't recognize your soundcard - or because you have specified the wrong number on channel inputs in your preferences (which then don't match with what your soundcards supports).

Re: Sound Input Error
I use Vista Home Basic and have exactly the same error message when I push the record button. Did you figure out what is wrong. Please let me know if you find a solution.
Re: Sound Input Error
As waxcylinder said - look at your sound-card settings and ensure that you have a valid audio device (sound card) selected for both recording and playback.
(Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O)
If your sound card is not available as a recording device, open the control panel and enable a recording input - see here for how: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ng_devices
