When recording sound with my microphone (it should probably remain in mind that we are talking about my mum's old microphone, a Sansui Stereo Microphone EM-5), the recording is displayed on the timeline, but when I try to play the sound Audacity gives me the following message:
Error when opening the audio file. Please check your choice of device and the samplerate of the project.
(It should be noted that I'm using a danish version of Audacity 1.2.6, so it is my own rudimentary traduction)
It should also be noted that:
- I'm using Vista
- That in my choice of recording device in Vista, I can choose the appropriate microphone
- In my mixer toolbar the input selection case is greyed out
- In Settings > Audio I/O > Recording > Device, i have chosen Micrososoft Sound Mapper
- When I choose one of the two other possibilities, which are by the way both called the same: Microsoft (The Device High Definition Audio), I can't even record. When I try the same message as above is displayed.
- I do know that one of the devices is my microphone because they are also called the same in my Vista Recording Device menu, and I do know that Audacity can record with my microphone, because when recording Microsoft Sound Mapper selected, it is my microphone, which is used to record, and the recording part works.
I Vista, the stettings of my microphone are:
2 Channels, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD-quality)
In Audacity, the settings of my recording are the same.
Thanks a lot in advance. I hope you'll be able to help me.
Yours faithfully
Jon

Re: Audacity won't play my recording
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.7
This may fix it, but if you still have the same problem, open "Help > Audio device Info" and copy and paste the information into your reply.
