Hi,
Have downloaded Audacity Converter but it keeps telling me that it is inactive. Is there a code somewhere that I need to enter? Help please.
Anum.

You need to download it again - you have the wrong program. Audacity is free and does not require any form of registration.
The download location is hosted by Sourceforge who use advertising to support the cost, so you need to take a bit of care that you do not accidentally click on one of the adverts instead of downloading Audacity.
I would recommend the 1.3 version of Audacity that is available by following the links here:

Also Audacity 1.3.8 is due out very soon and will be the best choice for all operating systems.

I have downloaded the Audacity for Windows. I followed the directions so that I could save a file as a MP3. I downloaded the additional lame and followed the directions, step one and two. Now it says "when finished downloading, unzip file and save". I have done this on my desktop with no problem, however, on my laptop, I can not find the zipped file at all. All I have is the icon Lame_v3.98.2_for Audacity_on_Windows.exe. I click on that and I get a RUN or Cancel. I ran it and nothing happens. Please help.

That's OK.

Or perhaps something did happen - it's not very spectacular. It is a self extracting archive. When you run it, it makes a folder in the "Program Files" directory called "Lame for Audacity" and copies the Lame components into there. If you open "My Computer" and go to C:Program Files you should be able to see the "Lame for Audacity" folder.
Open Audacity and go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export" (Audacity 1.3.7) or if you have Audacity 1.3.8 go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Libraries" and click on the "MP3 Library: Locate" button. Audacity will probably find Lame automatically, but if not, navigate to C:Program FilesLame for Audacity
