File begins playing, then no sound

I am trying to work on some files I had completed some time ago. I open a file, the sound starts, and less than two seconds into the file the sound quits, though the waveform is still present and looks like it is playing. This happens on every file. I deleted and reinstalled Audacity, I copied the file and opened it as a new file, but the problem remains. I'm on Windows XP. The files are in a folder, and the folder contains a data file (e.g. Deep River_data) and an Audacity Project File for each song. Can anyone tell me what the problem is, and how I can get them to play? Thanks!

<<<some files I had completed some time ago.>>>
Some
Projects you completed some time ago. Not some files.
Projects are not sound files. They're collections of files which is why they don't move well and they're easy to damage by renaming or deleting the wrong thing.
I'm looking for a clear explanation of a Project and apparently, nobody had the nerve to write one yet.
AUP Project File

This piece is a picture of a simple project file. Note that there are folders and directories burned into it. If I launch piano2.aup and piano2.wav isn't right there in that exact place, then my show will not open.
People who clean up or move their show files around regularly get killed with this.
Neatness does not count in Audacity. We professional slobs never have this problem.
