These instructions use Audacity 1.3.7
If you find that any of the steps are not possible in 1.2, please upgrade.

1) Generate a tone and trim it to the length that you require.
2) Create a new track and generate 10 seconds of silence.
3) Select both tracks and do a "Quick Mix" (Mix and Render in 1.3.7)
4) From the Effects menu select "Repeat" and enter the number of repeats that you want.
5) You now have a track with beeps every 10 seconds which you can mix with your music track.

Thank you for the prompt response. That sounds great. Do you know if you can do this to a batch of files?

No you can't, but once you have created your beep track you can import a music track, roughly trim the beep track, then Export (Exporting will mix the music track and the beep track together). You can then press Ctrl+Z a couple of times (Ubndo) then import your next music track and reuse the same beep track.
