Copy+Paste sound to new window, lowering of pitch

I'll keep it simple -
In one Audacity window, I have the last part of a song which I recorded from my Nintendo Wii. In the other window, I have the same song in full (except for the end), as an MP3 downloaded from a website. When I try to select, copy, and paste the ending section onto the end of the full song, Audacity lowers the pitch or speed (or both). When I go to the Effect menu and try to remedy this, the song's ending becomes distorted.

Main Question:
Why does Audacity lower the pitch when I copy a section of a song into another window?

I don't need to listen to it. The sound standards of the clips you're using are different from each other. Audacity is a terrible converter. Actually, it doesn't convert at all -- particularly 1.2. If you try to combine music clips with different bit depths and sample rates, the chance for success is zero.

Use Super or Switch to convert each of the pieces and clips to a common sound standard, say 44100, 16-bit, Stereo WAV and produce your show from those. Many headaches and odd instabilities vanish when you do that.

WAV is for production and editing, MP3 is for delivery and posting. They don't cross well.

Audacity 1.3 can correctly handle audio clips at different sample rates in the same track. It does this by resampling the audio on the fly (at the cost of some processing power,so you will not be able to play as many tracks simultaneously if they contain sounds that are not at the same sample rate as the project).

Audacity 1.2 can not do this, thus if you paste an audio clip with a sample rate of 22050Hz into a track that has a sample rate of 44100Hz it will play at double speed (it will play at the track rate of 44100 samples per second).
