It happens on my computer quite often. It doesn't affect any function of Audacity, it's just very annoying. The strange part is when I save a project (au file) that has the broken vertical line, it's still there whenever I reopen the file.

Is this considered a dead issue?

I used to get this symptom occasionally when I was still using 1.2.x - I don't ever recall seeing it in any of the 1.3.x versions I have used for the past year or so.

You might want to try upgrading to 1.3 - 1.3.7 is pretty stable now, but you may wish to wait a couple of weeks as I undestand 1.3.8 is being readied for a Beta release.
